SaBill Farms maintains a pastured, free-range flock of chickens, ducks, and geese. These birds enjoy an acre of fenced pasture with mixed forage species including fescue, bermuda grass, and clover.
Our Chickens
Our laying flock consists of approximately 100 birds - including laying hens, pullets, chicks, and roosters. We currently have Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, Americanas, and Plymouth Barred Rocks. From dawn until dusk, the birds free-range on a 1 acre pasture that is fenced to keep out predators. At night, the birds go into 3 coops to roost. These coops are locked at night to protect the birds from night predators.
Our birds get the opportunity to engage in their natural chicken behaviors including foraging, scratching, roosting, and dust bathing. Chickens are naturally omnivores which means they hunt for insects, small mammals, and small reptiles in their pasture. Our chickens' natural diet, which is high in protein and forage, allows for a heartier egg with thick egg whites and deep orange egg yolks.

Our Ducks
We currently have a flock of 15 ducks that live in the chicken yard with the other birds. The ducks are Pekins (white) and Khaki Campbells (brown). Ducks, like chickens, are omnivorous. Our ducks enjoy foraging along with the chickens and playing in their pool.

Our Geese
In Spring 2017, we purchased 2 geese. They are Brown African geese and are still too young to tell their gender. These funny birds are our beloved pets as well as stoic flock protectors.
